Oh, my dismay! The first book was so intriguing and full of so much potential. This, however did not propel the story and characters forward at all. It was essentially a re-hash of the first story. The character development was nil, the anachronistic elements were even more glaring and the action was hardly exciting. I wanted to love this story but it just fell so flat.
I wanted development of the other team members that was more than just a pairing-off. Somehow, standing in a circle holding hands and chanting does not make for riveting action. I don't know if the author hadn't planned on writing a follow-up so as a result it was laboured or what occurred. If you like the first book, I suggest you stop while you are ahead and spare yourself this re-telling. If you didn't read the first book, this might be fine as a standalone novel.
