When you buy a Hershey's Kiss, you know what you are going to get: beautiful foil wrapped around a tiny bite of sweet chocolate. Yum, if you like a tiny bite of sweet chocolate. If you don't, you don't buy it.
Same with Alexander McCall Smith. You know what you get when you pick up an Alexander McCall Smith story. You don't pick it up if you don't like Africa and a bit of mystery and a car repair shop and a number two detective who doesn't quite feel she deserves what she has obtained in life. And a wise number one detective who knows a lot about human nature.
