The Essence of Things

An extraordinary 1972 California heist begins decades before in Paris in 1935, when Jacques Dumont, a simple welder, embarks on a sting that would shake the world. Encountering a feisty Roma teen, Gadjo, they develop a friendship that plays out across decades and culminates in a remarkable crime, ripping apart all of Dumont's notions of love and human relations. Dumont's vision, threatened by a destitute trapeze artist named Jean-Luc and a world war, becomes immersed in a soul search for the core of things, from his relationships with lovers Sophie and Mari, to his life's one true love: Eiffel's Tower.
