Sockey explores the spiritual riches of the seasons, the saints, and special feast days, which add depth and variety to prayer. She also addresses the practice of praying the Scriptures, especially the psalms, and helps the reader to appreciate the universal beauty of these ancient prayers.

Daria Sockey's The Everyday Catholics Guide to the Liturgy of the Hours, is a much needed entry in an otherwise barren landscape of “How to pray the Divine Office” guides. There is only one other How-To book that I'm aware of and that is “the Divine Office for Dodos” book. I've read both and suggest that newcomers start with to the The Everyday Catholics Guide to the Liturgy of the Hours as it does a better job of giving the big picture view and structure of each office. More than being just a How-To guide though, Daria goes into the history and meaning of the Office and it's prayers making this a worthwhile read for those already schooled in this liturgical prayer. Highly recommended!
