The language was delicious, the plotting was thick and exciting and then I got bored. The relationship between Bruno and Lydia was wince inducing for about the first fourteen times but then I became immune to the sexual aspects of Lydia and Bruno and was just thinking, “yeah, I got it she's consensually “F**king” a chimp.” Again the language made me continue to read but at some point I found myself wanting to skip large parts of the narrative - I didn't. After that the book was rescued by characters such as Clever Hands and his quiet communication as well as the stupendous girth physically, mentally and psychologically of Leon. All in all it could have been a welcome smaller book but it just gets clunky as a large one.
