This book was pleasant surprise for me. It melded two genres together that of history and mystery. This series has become my new “summer read” quick, easy, beach reading fun!
I liked some things and others annoyed me or left me cold. I didn't feel like I really identified with Monk or his issues but I can't figure out why, since he was definitely in a tight spot to figure his way out of. Maybe it's just that I didn't feel a real sense of immediacy to his predicament.
I'll eventually read more in the series, but I think many of her other novels are stronger. This one also had a lot of focus on societal misdeeds/forbidden love/love child that just isn't my preferred reading material.
