This is my third book read by Katee Robert. I must say that I expected a lot of spice but in comparison to the other two books I've read it was pretty mellow. Albeit, I truly enjoyed the story. The dynamic between the demon hunter and the demons she encounter in the demon realm was woven very well. She wasn't there trying to slay every demon she met. She was searching for her mother's story and how her life ended. At the same time she ends up falling in love with the same creatures she was taught to kill. The emotional turmoil both her and her demon went through in the end and how they overcame it together with each others love and understanding was, in my eyes, beautiful. Katee Robert is easily becoming one of my favorite authors.
the weakest in the series so far.
The list of TW is long: self-deprecating thoughts and behaviour, grief, trauma, violent crimes, unspoken violence, coercion, depression, humiliation and so on...
I had such high hopes. none was achieved. that broke my heart. it's still a fast read, but everything was so damn odd that I almost DNFed it.
The instant love was superficial (in Portuguese: fogo de rabo) And, in my case, the minute I realised that Bram is traumatized, depressed and had an obvious suicidal profile, all the S&M and “domi” thing started to be too cringe to handle.
The “plot twist” at the end was predictable (the moment Bram explains the bargain that his father has made to get a human, everything went together) and it still sounds a bit unnecessary to me.
don't even get me started on Bram's numbness about Grace's family business. Either he was too naive to get. that or I've watched too much Supernatural to get things in a blink).
I hope the series gets better soon
4.5 stars.
I love how this tied in with the Bloodline Vampires series. I also like (surprisingly) how it ended, since it was open-ended and not exactly finished with a neat little bow.
I predicted the twist near the end, but it was pretty obvious. Still loved the smut, the dialogue, and the character development.
