The Gate

This is a very brief introduction to an alternative universe, set in post-WWI England. It really feels like a prologue, and I don't expect to see any of these characters again (I could be wrong). It's about a pair of young war veterans who might be interested in each other romantically. A visitor from another world (I think?) appears on the farm, and there is some action. I don't know if this should count as a book. It's not. I thought it was a short story in the Lost in Time Universe (it can be read as such) but it's actually the first chapter in [b:Inheritance of Shadows 52817066 Inheritance of Shadows (Lost in Time) A.L. Lester https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1585578861l/52817066.SY75.jpg 78962070]. As it is this is a satisfying (though open ended) story of two men reuniting at the home farm back from the trenches of WWI and encountering something ... strange. It's very quiet, very low key, very English. I liked it.
