Governor George Washington Fernandez is running for re-election. The problems begin when the Governor's spouse gets caught with a stripper. Then the Governor starts to have feelings for the stripper herself.
All Georgia, aka George, has wanted to do is make the world a better place. She even broke up with a girlfriend because she wasted a primary vote. When she decides to go into politics, she buries her sexual identity and marries her best friend in a marriage of convenience.
Rumors have circulated before that George might be a lesbian, but she has outlasted the murmurs. Now her husband has caused this scandal and to clean it up, her team hires the stripper as an intern.
Mila is more than George expected. She is smart, a hard worker, and has great ideas for the campaign. The more George is around Mila, she is reminded of the woman she packed away when she got into politics.
Mila notices George's interest and is definitely responding to it. Talk about a scandal waiting to happen with reporters and spies lurking about everywhere waiting for George to mess up.
I actually begged to be on this ARC team (laugh). I had never read a J.J. Arias book before and the premise seemed great. I really wanted to read it and you will too because it is timely, on target, and a great romance.
The Goode Governor (2019) deals with perception and how women have to fight harder to get ahead. Everything that Arias wrote resonated with me. I have worked many political campaigns (for too many years to count) and have seen similar situations. Luckily for us, Arias gives us a happy ending.
We also get to learn about some issues in a general way and why they are not on the forefront. Arias' responses were familiar as I have actually heard some verbalized in a similar way. I love romances and books that have that touch of realism, but once again give you that happy ending.
The chemistry between Mila and George is sizzling. I love the gym and dance scene. (Whew!) I was actually hoping Jo would be a lesbian too so she would have a book (laugh). I love her character. The supporting cast is fun. I would vote to re-elect The Goode Governor and you should too! ✶✶✶✶
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
