A delightful and atmospheric old novel of Victorian-era Britain. A young girl ends up orphaned and penniless and must go to her pawnbroker uncle in another town. He has no concept of the value of a life lived for God, and her gentle witness is not falling on good ground. It's a well-written vintage story with a sweet, independent heroine.
