In this second book of The Staff and the Sword trilogy the danger is escalated, the characters are given much more depth and the action sequences propel the narrative toward book three. This second book does resolve most of its situations superbly, and yet continues to build toward the concluding volume in a way that is quite natural. Kudos to the author!
