Old Kent is best known for its genealogies of early Eastern Shore families. At one time the Kent settlement embraced all of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, including the present-day counties of Talbot, Somerset, Cecil, Dorchester, Queen Anne's, Worcester, and Caroline.
