It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. Average. I really enjoyed the archeology spin on this story, and found the premise really interesting up until a point. But at the same time there was a lot of stereotypes and a lot of cliche moments where you could really predict what was going to happen. (Victim is under police protection and goes off alone with someone she has just become suspicious about. That couldn't possibly go wrong, right?)
I also disliked that there was almost no interaction between Jane and Maura in this. I know the TV show is a lot different to the books, but in this one in particular you could really feel the difference. It didn't even really feel like they were friends at all.
This one also carried on the plot about the mephisto club, so if you jumped into this story without reading the earlier novels then you probably missed out on the context of that.
I have read several of her other books and I've become such a huge fan that I had to get this book the day it hit shelves! I'll update my review when I finish it.
