I have not read this book but I have a collection of Kiddie Wings... They were the "Wings" given to young children by "Stewardesses" upon landing when they were departing some passenger planes mostly in the 1960's
There were also "Sweetheart Wings" which were given by pilots to their sweethearts during the war.
Other "Wings" both plastic and metal were made as advertising souvenirs for various airline companies and airports.
