A colorful tale of the frontier, set about a dozen years after the Revolution. The hero is plucky enough and interesting, except where he shows his extreme racial prejudices; the heroine is the polar opposite and has dedicated her life to living among the Wyandot. Sadly, the point about his racial issues didn't get driven home, as the heroine gives up her mission for love of him.
This obviously reflects some of the issues of the day, but was annoying anyway. He'd rather blame disagreements with the fair lady on her quarter-measure of “savage blood” than on his own stupidity. Rene, my dear, you could have loved a better man...
Still, it was a fun read, despite quite a lot of violence and a double measure of strong swearing. I'd say 18+ just for that and for the racism.
