Quite a good short story; a 2017 Hugo award finalist. No surprise there, Linda Nagata has been turning out high-quality SF for many years.
There is a lot of awesome story packed into this small package. I was left with so many questions and concern for the characters, things that weren't said in the short story, but they didn't have to be, the story just leaves it to you to think about.
