Well organized and presented. These were lectures to savor, not rush through. Garfield lays out the history of self-aware thought, progressing carefully through the ages, providing context for each movement or thinker. After listening to this course, I've added to my reading list (Tolstoy, Hume, Epictetus). In a couple of years, with those under my belt, I'll be listening to this course again. And maybe reading more. Repeat.
My only nit was with his treatment of Job (the bible book). Two lectures was too much. He takes it far too seriously, debating the goodness/morality/etc of Job and his god in hand-wringing detail. It was ... silly. I might have better appreciated a quick rundown of what's currently known about the multiple authors of the bible, their backgrounds, their living conditions, their inspirations (e.g. Gilgamesh), and the environment that led to the writing of the bible.
(My comments apply to the audio version of this course, not video)
