The Melankholia Project

The Melankholia Project

2017 • 470 pages

When the weather is nice, and if you are lucky enough to have a radio that works, you can listen to human radio stations in the city. The news is usually incomprehensible but the music is a well-loved respite from the sounds of struggle that echo through the town. The sky is perpetually overcast and on the east side of town there is an endless sea of black water. In three other directions, the city continues on without end. The buildings are in a constant state of disrepair and the threat of a quick and violent death is always around the corner. This is Melankholia. The city populated by Shades and nightmares. 'Nightmares' being the general catch-all term for whatever monstrosities worm their way into existence in search of death and destruction. Shades being like humans... but less. Zig is a Shade. She was Evangeline, the regent's sister, living in their tall tower in the center of their district. Frustration with her powerlessness and isolation led her to walk away from her old life and embrace a new one. Nightmare hunting, for fun and profit. Or death.
