When Pete and Bob respond to a faint cry for help on their way home from the beach one day, they discover a statuette with a message written in blood outside the gate of a large estate. Alternating between fleeing from a hunchback shadow with an inhuman laugh and two dark men brandishing knives—Jupe, Pete, and Bob attempt to decipher the scant clues to save a two-hundred-year-old treasure from being stolen. As The Three Investigators are foiled again and again, they begin to realize that their adversary is more cunning—and more dangerous—than first thought. Can the Three Investigators capture the criminal and free his prisoners or will they be too late?
