The Prisoner's Throne

I'm going to be honest, a little disappointed with this book. I just don't know if it was the fact that the first 75% was just kind of bland or if it took me a moment to get fully immersed back in this world. Granted, I definitely forgot things from the original trilogy as well as The Stolen Heir but, even still this book just didn't do it for me.

The ending of The Stolen Heir made me have high expectations for this book, I expected Wren to be fleshed out a lot more in this book considering her actions in that final chapter in the previous book. I will say Oak's perspective was interesting to read at times because of the fact that remembering him as that boy in The Cruel Prince, he's obviously grown up and the people around him have shaped him in different ways. Madoc, Oriana, Jude...etc etc.

The plot was very much “We're betrothed” “Call it off” “Let's have them get married” “No let's wait 3 days” “Let them get married if you can solve a riddle” “No let's do this instead” and throw in the sub-plot of people conspiring against the throne. Oh plus the hags doing hag things, I suppose. It was just....a little haphazardly thrown together.

I gotta thank you, Holly Black for the JudeCardan crumbs, I lived for it and I need another book with them pronto. They are it.
