Holy! This book was much faster compared to book 1. Lots of crazy stuff happened in it. Not even a second of it was boring.
1 star less because I'm not sold on the ending plot (aha I need to be convinced more). But the reveal near the end was mind-blowing!
Ediss is my favourite character till now. The portrayal of PTSD and anxiety was good in this. I liked whenever the Magus showed up because the banter is awesome so need him more in the books.
The plots and plans undertaken in the story were marvelous and well thought out. Except THAT thing near the end. What the heck was that? Has Eugenides lost his mind?!
Better! to trust! in the moon's!!! promises!!!! than the word!! of the thief!! of eddis!!!! he was famous!!!! in three! countries!!!! for his! lies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3.5 stars.
Is it weird I like the first book better? I think the newness of the story was what I enjoyed in the first one. With the second book, I was more familiar with the author's style and the way she likes to reveal big plot twists, so it wasn't as surprising and unexpected. Overall still an enjoyable classic fantasy read.
It's really hard for me to decide which one I prefer, this book or [b:The King of Attolia 40159 The King of Attolia (The Queen's Thief, #3) Megan Whalen Turner https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1293505327l/40159.SY75.jpg 847545]. I loved everything about this book. I loved the characterisation of Eugenides, I hurt when he hurt and grinned when did. I enjoyed his relationships with Eddis, his father, Galen, the Magus and Attolia. I could go on listing all the things I enjoyed but at this point, I feel like my point is obvious, this is still without a doubt one of my favourite books.
This seems a better book than its predecessor, [b:The Thief 30363359 The Thief (The Queen's Thief, #1) Megan Whalen Turner https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1475685365l/30363359.SY75.jpg 1069505]: it's more lively, more gripping, more is happening. On the other hand, what's happening is often unpleasant in some way. I can tolerate unpleasantness up to a point (some unpleasantness is almost inevitable in the course of a novel), and I can tolerate it here, but I don't tend to enjoy it.If you read this book, you will probably want to read the sequels, to find out what happens.I read the whole series and put my review of the series under the final volume, [b:Return of the Thief 40650301 Return of the Thief (The Queen's Thief, #6) Megan Whalen Turner https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1603971521l/40650301.SY75.jpg 16439607]; I won't review each volume separately.
This is a very exceptional sequel. A well crafted, politically intriguing story. I'm in awe of how the author developed Attolia's character.
