is there anything sadder than rereading an old favourite and realising it isn't a favourite anymore?
PROS
- the second half
- all the twists i didn't see coming
- a friends-to-lovers (the superior trope!!!) romance, however vanilla
- this book could save the world
- i loved the direction it took iykyk
- i could honestly read a whole damn book about maya's social media posts, which were infinitely more interesting than anything else in this book
CONS
- the first half
- the writing which felt more middle grade than YA
- how slow (but at the same time not slow) this book was
- the notion that you can't be happy if you don't have kids (ugh, breeders)
- shen was boring as hell
*
The fact that I read this during a similar pandemic . . . hi, eerie existential crisis.
