The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Other Tales of Terror

Everyone has heard of Jekyll and Hyde - so I finally got around to seeing what the original was like.

The answer is that it was a really well written, thoughtful and disturbing story. Nothing like the caricatures you may have encountered.

I am so glad that I read this and can certainly see why it is so influential.

A darn good read.

Disturbing, to say the least! I roughly knew the Jekyll-Hyde story; so that was no big surprise. What shocked me were the “other tales of terror”. They were far more scarier and sinister, even. The Jekyll-Hyde story itself is quite short, but for some reason, the publishers have included two large chapters at the beginning AND at the end, dissecting the tale. That got pretty tiring, real soon. Overall, the book is a scary scary read. 

This is one of those stories I read in my Norton Anthology Textbooks. I can remember liking this story in college, and now liking it even more as an adult. This is one of those stories that I would suggest to anyone who would like to read the classics, but is intimidated by the larger works. This is short, sweet, and worth the read. I give it a five out of five.
