When my parents split up they didn't know what to do with me . . .
My family always lived at Mulberry Cottage. Mum, Dad, me - and Radish, my Sylvanian rabbit. But now Mum lives with Bill the Baboon and his three kids. Dad lives with Carrie and her twins. And where do I live? I live out of a suitcase. One week with Mum's new family, one week with Dad's.
It's as easy as A B C. That's what everyone says. But all I want is to go home - back to Mulberry Cottage..

The Suitcase Kid is about a kid who has to live in two houses over a period of time, because of her parents' divorce. She'd always dream of staying in one house together, like they used to, happily ever after. But, unfortunately for her, things changed. Her dad went to live with his girlfriend, who is pregnant with Dad's child, and her mum went to live with her boyfriend, who is described as ‘The Baboon' by Andy, who is the main character. So, she had to learn how to adapt herself into this situation. This book was really good, personally!
One of my favourite things about reading so much to my daughter had been finding stories and authors I wouldn't usually look at.
Jacqueline Wilson has very quickly become of my favourite children's authors, she writes such complex stories in such simple ways and she does a great job of demonstrating trauma.
When it comes to parents separating we all know it's tough, but seeing it through the eyes of Andy, the main girl of the Suitcase Kid, shows just how damaging it can be and how at times the children are a second thought to divorce.
This is a story I'd highly recommend, it's a quick read as well!
