I read this book in one sitting, I loved the concept with the game they play. I suggest this book for pre teens or teens, it is a cutesy romance with no highly inappropriate scenes. Also I loved the cover with all the bright colors.
This book is a total package. A love story at most, but there's also a story of grief, of friendship and of wholesome family loving and some adventure to go along with it all.
Overwhelmed with grief and loss, Meredith bravely tries to get a semblance of a normal life; as normal as she could after suffering a tragic loss. It started with spending her summer with her own family at Martha's Vineyard – the place they used to spend their summer before it all happened. Though still haunted by the memory, Meredith managed to rekindle the friendship she unintentionally severed and found solace in her own family. And she found Wit, the love interest.
Though I think that the relationship between Mer and Wit is kinda rushed, the story can be a bit draggy at parts. A nice read, though.
The Taylor Swift references won me over immediately but this whole book was adorable. Teared up more times than i can count.
Had higher expectations of this book. The romance was cute, but the main character's best friend annoyed me throughout most of the book.

I wanted to read something similar to “the summer I turned pretty” and this is kind of like it. Just kind of. I don't read romance novels for one reason: Insta love. This book was pretty much insta love, but it was still pretty enjoyable and cute.

hey stephen
“I know i promised not to tell you, but you are pretty, killer. You're pretty, beautiful, stunning, mesmerizing.” he paused. “But that's not all you are. You're everything Claire said and more. Clever, funny, caring, lively, strong, brave- all of it. You are all of it.” he kissed the top of my head. “And i do know how much you adore me,” he whispered. “I just wish it was as much as i adore you.”
“It's one of those special places where you feel like time doesn't exist. Where it will always be summer, where I'll always wake up with you.”
Divertidísimo de leer, amamos las referencias a Taylor, Meredith es una reina y necesitamos q impriman más Stephens

never once in my life did i think i would rate a book like this so low... it was. something. i should've read some reviews first because any book loved by taylor swift fans and whose only reviews are “loved the taylor swift references” is an indicator of how good they actually are.
i had a lot of problems while reading this. first and foremost, claire. the way she was caracterized was so discrepant with one another. sometimes, she was full of life and outgoing, ready to scream, and other times, she lacked confidence and was quiet, and went unnoticed. and then meredith's own characteristics changed as well based on which claire she was talking about.
meredith and wit's relationship was also a huge miss to me. it was cute at first, but i really can not get over the fact that all that happened in just a week. it was pissing me off. not to mention the title is literally “the SUMMER”... that wasn't a summer. that was a week.
and a very shitty week at that. i can't believe meredith ignored her friends for what? almost 2 years, and when she finally gets to be with them, she ditches them for a random guy she just met. and gets her friend to apologize to her??? nah. i actually couldn't stand her. she's selfish and entitled. being mad when her cousin told a story about claire from the day she died ?? ok and ? did she ever think that her cousin was also in the accident? and has suffered as well ?
i was so pissed reading all of this, and i really thought the assassin game was gonna be a very important part of the plot with maybe the romance as just a side plot. no, they literally forget about the game once they get together. boring. hated it. do not recommend.
Such a cute summer romance! Finished it in a day and a half.
I love how most of the plot took place during a game, which is super unique and a fun twist.
The Taylor swift references were cute too. Not too many - just the right amount.
