Update, April 2022
Now that I've read the ‘official' Kindle-published version, I do still enjoy this, but I'm a little disappointed that it mostly just seems to be a slightly expanded version which still hasn't been properly edited. In fact, despite still containing the foreword which proclaims this story to be a writing exercise that's offered for free because it's unedited, this now costs a dollar on Amazon. That's just disheartening, though I do believe the story itself is worth the price.
I enjoyed the story again, even though I recalled the twist which I still refuse to spoil. But I think I'm going to have to lower the rating from 4 to 3 because I expected editing and expanding for the published version and there are still a few little annoyances. (I can't go into them without spoiling.)
Original Review, November 2021
A short, entertaining story that went a completely different direction than I expected, in a very good way. I'm not going to spoil this with a synopsis, and I wouldn't know how to explain it in a spoiler-free manner. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but had a couple gripes I won't get into since they've likely been fixed in the paid version. (I read the original from 2020, which the author released for free with minimal editing.)
