When visiting DC, it is hard to miss the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It is a place that evokes a sense of loss, pride, and thankfulness for those who were willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
In this book, we meet Jack, a young boy who does not fully understand the purpose of the tomb. He is at first bored, but then becomes intrigued as he watched the guard, 21 steps, 21 second wait, turn, reposition her weapon, and start again. As he begins to more fully understand, he gains a deeper appreciation for this unknown soldier, and the many others just like him, who gave their all for the freedoms that we take for granted.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was very well done, and perfect for young readers, so that they too might understand the significance of the tomb, and its place in American history.
