Shows how writers can use mythic structure to give coherence and weight to both narrative fiction and nonfiction

The material here is useful, although the examples provided make it seem as though any story or movie could be twisted to fit the structure of the “hero's journey” if the twisting is done forcefully enough. It's somewhat repetitive, also, and I think the same information could have been delivered in half the pages.
This text is the very definition of textbook. It literally has definitions of different types of characters one would find in myth and that is fine if that is what you are looking for. It also provides some examples of these various characters from popular films. I think this book would be a good choice as a textbook, but little more needs to be considered beyond that a[[lication. Because of that, I have better things to read. I give it a two out of five.
