A fully illustrated, full color children's book in Iloko. The story is a translation of The Mountain That Loved A Bird by Alice McLerran, originally published in the United States with illustrations by Eric Carle. The translation from English to Iloko is by Herminio S. Beltran, Jr.; the full color illustrations are by Beaulah Pedregosa Taguiwalo, drawn from the landscapes of the Philippines. It is published by Mother Tongue Publishing Inc., a Manila-based company that aims to publish books in as many languages as possible.
Iloko is the third most-spoken language in the Philippines. It is an Austronesian language, related to such languages as Indonesian, Malay, Fijian, Maori (of New Zealand), Hawaiian, Malagasy (of Madagascar), Samoan, Tahitian, Chamorro (of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands), Tetum (of East Timor), and Paiwan (of Taiwan). The term "Iloko" is sometimes confused with "Ilokano" which refers to the people who speak the Iloko language.
This book is also available in Hiligaynon, Kinaray-a, Cebuano, and Filipino.
