We read this one tonight for bedtime out of our Make Way for McCloskey Treasury but I enjoyed it enough to almost wish we has a solo copy. Both girls sat snuggled in my lap and were calm almost all the way through and sleepy by the end. Which is saying something when reading a picture book such as McCloskey heavy on the text and light on the images for my 3 & 1 year old girls.

This one is a Caldecott winner and it is easy to see why. It has a tempo all of its own with such as the rushing and changing of the tide. It makes me remember my beach vacations and the calmness and “wonder” that surrounded them.

I certainly wouldn't mind this as a reread and I hope over the years my girls will request it. (At least as much as “blueberries!)
