I read some of the reviews and I have to agree with both the good and the bad. It is not one of Crichton's best but I enjoyed reading it nonetheless. It was a quick and fun read even though the plot had been quite predictable. The ending was kind of disappointing to be honest.
Super enjoyable book written for history lovers. It's basically a nonstop action adventure (read: many tenuous plot devices) with a generous helping of historical facts and trivia at every opportunity. Would make an excellent movie or video game.
4 stars because of some flaws but they don't get in the way at all. Check it out
Edit: actually, there is a movie, and it performed abysmally. Also, people hate the characters? I mean, they weren't super great but also this is not meant to be high fiction. The slightly cardboard main characters were more than made up for by history and fun action—which is basically what I expected when I started the book
the first half of the book was a big slow and I didn't think I was enjoying the book much but then it picked up and I really started to enjoy the story. By the end I can say I really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the ending.
I love [a:Michael Crichton 5194 Michael Crichton https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1359042651p2/5194.jpg]'s books because they have alot of hard science [even if it's not so factual to those who work in those fields] and he pauses just long enough to explain it and make it real to me, and then he's back on to the plot.I picked this book up because I'd seen the movie and although the plots stay in sync the characters are waaay different.
My first and, quite possibly, my last Crichton book.
Despite it being a story of almost non stop peril - the central characters going from one life threatening scene to the next - I found the book incredibly boring and far too long.
reading the synopsis could not have prepared me for what i was about to read. would not recommend to someone who didn’t take physics in high school lol
