I'm not saying this is a bad story - but it is just not for me. There's a huge focus on sex and I much prefer my romances to be merely seasoned with sex than have it be the major focus. Also...Cody's kind of really pushy. I mean, there's some uncomfortable times where he pushes, even while Lucas is retreating and it's not pretty. (Definitely some rape-y undertones their first time together, before we know Cody well enough to know that if Lucas said ‘no' he'd back off. But...I wish Cody would learn that an absent protest is not a ‘yes.' Course, there is some dom/sub stuff going on, but it's not like those kinks are ever talked about, much less during the first couple sex scenes.)
I do really wish there'd been more music here. I decided on this book because I love stories about music and have a unhealthy fascination with reality shows. But...it just seemed kind of glossed over. I love the idea, but the execution left something to be desired. (And there were a few Glee references, but I liked that show for the music and competition, not the drama, so it would have been great if this book had more music and competition and ... less drama.)
Cody and Lucas actually talking about their relationship and how their hurdles make me feel for them, made me want to trade in nearly all of the sex scenes for more of that. (Kind of disappointed that this book didn't work for me because I read Albert's #gaymers series and really enjoyed it. I did briefly - around the fifty percent mark - think about dnfing this one, and I don't really think I'd have missed anything if I had.)
