I liked this story. The journey that Lola took throughout the book was interesting. I'm Afro-Latina and many of my cousins struggle with Spanish like Lola so her story felt familiar. I didn't appreciate how Lola's parents treated her after they found out that she got a C in Spanish. I did expect a negative response because of the way she reacted to receiving the grade. Her extended family made the story vastly more interesting with their antics. Over the course of her summer in Mexico Lola finds herself learning about love, belonging, and the magic around us all.
Thank you to Turn the Page Tours and Kokila for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
