Warlord Politics in China, 1916-1928

The authors sets out to accomplish three tasks : to identify and define the militarists, in terms of their personal and social characteristics, and socioeconomic backgrounds ; to describe the environment surrounding them, their economic and technological resources, how they were mobilized, distributed and utilized ; and to describe and analyze how the actors behaved, as they followed shrewd and calculating rules in dealing with each other.
