It's probably not a full 4 star for me, but since I am well past the ya stage I'm bumping it up. It has a good story and kept me engaged. I found it a little predictable with a good bit of plot armor, but it ends the way you want it to end and I was satisfied at the end. It's a nice palette cleanser.
It really pains me to give a Tricia Levenseller book only 3 stars but I just could not connect to the main character at all up until the last 100 pages or so.
But I kept reading the book because I love Levenseller's unique fantasy settings and I liked the story itself!
Nontheless, I am excited to read her future books!
Great book, I devoured it in a day; the shortest it's taken me to read a book in a long time. With a blonde, ax-wielding warriors surrounded by men wearing furs and metal armor, I was getting strong Astrid from How to Train Your Dragon vibes, and I loved it. The story was intriguing, the characters were interesting, and the banter between Rasmira, Soren, and Iric was so authentic. Friends struggling to survive and trust each other in a dangerous world l. I'm glad I read this book (which is a perfect standalone) and am excited to read more by Tricia Levenseller.
