Read it just for the sake of nostalgia.
Used to love these when I was little :)
Especially the choose your own adventure books!
The top reviews for this book are so negative. 2 stars? It's a book for 4th and 5th graders. They don't have the attention span for character development. They just want the story.
Unbelievably I never read any of the Goosebumps books until now. With the movie coming out, and the series now on Netflix, I thought it was time to read some of the books. I enjoyed this book. It took awhile to get going, but was still packed with creepy moments. I've heard it's not the best, but it is the first. When I need a quick read, I'd be interested in reading a few more.
The mum and dad in this story need to be WHOOPED
Amanda messed up at the end
Josh was just a little rat but he redeemed himself
Petey was a crusty little white dog but tolerable
In conclusion: Josh remains the only good character in this book - what a king
This just doesn't have the same feel to it as it did when I was a kid. I remember reading this series everywhere and being so excited to finish it in a day. I do plan on continuing the series because I don't think I read all the original books.
As an adult I noticed a lot of things I missed as a kid. The parents clearly aren't good decision makers because who moves to a town on a whim without checking out the school? Why not sell the house for some cash? You still have to pay taxes and utilities. Also, who leaves a 12 year old and a 11 year old home alone? No sitter? Finally, Josh was an idiot.
Can't wait to read book #2!
I enjoyed it quite a lot. The plot was kind of predictable but still a fun time. Can't wait to read more on the series.
2020 has been a rough year and so I have been looking back at things from my childhood that brought me a lot of joy as kind of an escape from real life. I remember reading a few Goosebumps books and watching the tv show (though I was more of an Are You Afraid of the Dark fan for sure) and my husband kept most of the collection from his own childhood. SO I have decided to read as many of them as I can.
‘Welcome to Dead House' was a great first book. These books are short, sweet and to the point.
