I was a huge fan of Jenny Colgan's early novels loving Amanda's Wedding & Looking for Andrew McCarthy. It had been a number of years since I'd read her books but they seem to be riding high in the chick lit charts so I thought I'd delve back in and reinforced by this novel being voted best novel in it's category for the year I hoped it would be good.
I wasn't disappointed. This was a lovely story of nurse Rosie who moves in with her great aunt Lilian who is recovering from a hip operation and beginning to struggle with running her family sweet shop and managing her own health.
I loved the way the stories of Rosie & Lillian were woven together through the book and also that it had such a sense of warmth and was not too over sentimentalised. The plot is quite clear but most novels in this genre you can see the ending by the first few chapters in. It was just so lovely to read, the characters likeable and uncomplicated.
Colgan is back on form and I now am looking forward to indulging in the cupcake cafe, the chocolate shop in Paris and also to this christmas where I believe a companion book is due to be released revisiting Rosie...highly recommended
