“White Phantom City” is a historical murder mystery with a supernatural element, spanning a two hundred year period from Venice in the eighteenth century, through WW2 to the nineteen fifties.
It is full of references to Canaletto and his contemporaries, and I would advise readers to look up the paintings of the early to mid seventeen hundreds.
In particular:
Canaletto: “The Stonemason’s Yard” (look for the skull in the belfry and the peeing child!) and The Basin of San Marco on Ascension Day, both at the National Gallery, London and (zoomable) on their website.
