My first reaction was disappointment that I didn't love this because I LOVED The Simple Wild. But I thought about it and I did like it, I just wish it was maybe happier? And more romantic because I thought it lacked the initial chemistry that was there between Calla and Jonah in TSW. And I wish it wasn't as focused on every little thing that could possibly go wrong for Calla and Jonah as they're acclimating to their new life together in Alaska. It seemed like the author threw every trope-y curveball at them that she could and that just seemed so unnecessary after a while because there was already enough going on.
Despite my criticisms, I did enjoy the new characters that were introduced. They made for some enjoyable and touching moments.
3.5-4 stars.
roy's and calla's relationship was more interesting than the actual plot of the book
4.5 Stars
I loved it, not as much as the first but I loved it.
“And then I met you, and you were like a wrecking ball comin' into my life, Calla.” “A beautiful hot pink wrecking ball. And everything changed for me. All these things I didn't want before, suddenly all I could think about was having them all with you.” “And I haven't stopped thinking about them since”
You see Calla and Jonah's relationship grow, challenges they face, and it is all very relatable. Calla continues to try and find her place in Alaska. Calls takes on gardening, animals, and making new friends. Jonah has a new flying adventure.
I didn't laugh out loud in this book, but I cried 2x, it was so good. ❤️
Absolutely loved being back in Alaska with Calla and Jonah, as well as the old and new characters in their lives.
