I love Molly Harper for her characters, fast moving plots, and the sharp dialogue (made so much better by Amanda Ronconi's snarky tone of voice). They are my favourite light relief after a heavier book. This one is just not as good as usual. It's like her heart wasn't really in it and she didn't love her characters like she normally does. It made it much more like a standard romance/fantasy rather than a Molly Harper story. I will probably try the next one in the series in a hopeful spirit.
I just finished Witches get stuff done, Starfall point book 1 by Molly Harper and here are my thoughts.
Riley didn't even know she had an aunt until after her mothers death. More questions than answers, Riley travels to meet her elusive aunt in Starfall point only to be too late. She passes away before Riley arrives. A lawyer hands her a letter that can only be read at her aunt's house.
Unbeknown to Riley she has now accepted stewardship of Shaddow house and the ghosts inside it and the magic inside her can no longer be contained. Her family legacy is bigger than she ever imagined but her load is shared with a small coven she finds on the island.
Edison Held is a librarian and a historian with a longing to see inside Shaddow house but hsi first meeting with Riley doesn't go well but with the attraction between them maybe she can find it in her heart to let him in.
Oohh this one was fabulous! Witches, ghosts and romance! Trisector of epicness!!! Riley had a rough start to life. Mother who didn't tell her who she really was and kept her own at arms length. I couldn't imagine! It's like Riley found herself once she went home to the island. I also love how she found her coven of witches who also had no idea who they were either. Loved her chemistry with Edison as well. It all just worked for me.
Loved the plot! Family legacy of ghosts and their witchy abilities working between the worlds... cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment! The writing was really solid and I couldn't believe how fast I finished it.
5 stars. Definitely my favorite book of September.
