In the author's note at the end of the book, Chris says during the writing of the book he suffered a devastating loss and the book nearly didn't get finished.
Unfortunately this is somewhat reflected in this instalment. I've read the entire series and loved them all, but this one fell a bit flat. It was a bit dragged out, the pacing felt a little off, the dialogue was stilted and the descriptions were unnecessarily verbose even for him (I usually enjoy how detailed he is as it's clear he does an insane amount of research but this was too much).
I don't want the author's personal situation reflect my rating and review, but I do have to be honest and say it's not the best in the series.
I hope Chris is taking the time to heal and look forward to the next in the series whenever that comes.
Yet another chapter of Hunter running from one place to another. I'm starting to see a pattern here...
