A cute romance, mixed with a splash of darkness, seasoned with beatifully different worlds, and served with the wit and humor I would expect from a secret project. While not the best romance around,(This aint Sarah J. Maas romance fantasy. This is Sanderson fantasy romance) it is undeniably cute and enjoyable. The contrasting lifestlyes and worlds complement each other wonderfully. The plot is extremely character driven, with incredible investment in the main characters and their relationships.
Yumi and her devotion was fascinating to read about. Her story offered a unique perpective on those who give their lives to serve others. Painter's similar, yet different, character is equally intruiging. With comparable issues to most readers, its easy to get into his life and struggles. Their stories, worlds, and lives complement each other so beautifully.
And, of course, Cosmere referances are always a plus for me.
