I heard about the movie and wanted to read the book before seeing how Hollywood changed (butchered) it.
Read the reviews written by a few others and wondered if they had read the same book I had.
Was she hard to like? At times. Did she do silly (incredibly dangerous and crazy) things and get incredibly lucky? Absolutely.
Taken at face value, her tale matches what I have read about other PCT hikes (which are consistently different in their content than the tales from the AT). I did a short 4 day trip on the Washington PCT section... What I saw and experienced... I think it is possible.
Question aside; if it is true, if it is embellished, or if it is complete fiction - she wrote it, got it published, we read it, and now we're talking about it.
(Did you think and reflect on how you would have experienced what she did? Mission accomplished.)
But I also saw someone, very different from me, who decided that she needed a drastic change, and pursued it.
I see people desperate like this almost on a daily basis; most of them will never rise out of the ditch they are in. She did. That is an achievement.
I think it is a good tale of self-redemption.
First read this in High School.... time to read it again (yes - it is that good).
Liked it.
Recommended through the Sword and Laser podcast (look it up an give them a listen!) - I have yet to be disappointed!
