I did not enjoy this one as much as the first one. I am still very interested in where the story is going and immediately picking up book 3. I loved the introduction of Nikolai.
I love Alice in Wonderland and loved the references in this book. It made me smile at times. A good short installment.
The writing felt very clunky and disjointed to me. It was hard to pick up on the time jumps and I am used to reading duel timeline books. I had high hopes for this one but it was just not something I could read.
I always love to see what the calendar crew is up to. Another great installment of this series.
Idyllic neighborhood, perfect family, meaningful career. CIA analyst Beth Bradford has it all— Until she doesn't.
I fell that there were too many twists and turns in this book. Just as we were getting over something a new thing slams right into us.
About half way through the book I was able to guess who the agent known as The Neighbor was, and at one point I had an idea on who the next one was going to be and it was confirmed later on.
With being able to guess this it took me out of the story for the most part.
Thank you NG and Ballantine Books for the review copy.
This is exactly what I look for in a cozy mystery. Great characters, a cash that keeps you guessing and amazing sounding food. I wanted to eat everything in this book. Looking forward to what is next for this group.
This was a great story and introduction to the town of Happily Inc. I have read one other book in this series and enjoyed it so I wanted to come to the beginning and I am glad that I did. I am going to continue to get to know the rest of the residents of this charming town.
First Rule: Make them like you.
Second Rule: Make them need you.
Third Rule: Make them pay.
Hannah is a third year law student who transfers to University of Virginia from Maine for a semester to join The Innocence Project who are representing Michael Dandridge. The project team is full when she gets there but she soon works her way in and onto Michaels team. However she is not there to free him she is there to make sure he stays in prison.
Her mother Laura has been telling her all her life that Michael killed Hannah's father and assaulted Laura years before. As Hannah gets more involved in the case and sees Michael she begins to question everything.
To me the beginning of the book was a little slow but it was a lot of build up and back story but I flew through the last 25% of it. I was not able to guess the ending and boy was it a good one.
Thank you to Netgalley and William Morrow for the advanced copy.
Nine strangers receive a list with their names on it in the mail. Nothing else, just a list of names on a single sheet of paper. None of the nine people know or have ever met the others on the list. They dismiss it as junk mail, a fluke - until very, very bad things begin happening to people on the list.
This was my first Peter Swanson book, and I don't think it will be my last. Nine Lives has a And Then There Were None vibes. His writing style kept me reading for hours and wanting to pick it back up when I had to do other things. He has a way of making you feel that you are in the story. This was very atmospheric read for me. I had a feeling of who the culprit was at the end but there was a part that still caught me off guard.
Overall this was a very enjoyable read and I cannot wait to pick up his other books.
Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for an ARC in exchange for an honest review
This is such an interesting short story completely from the perspective of an AI. With so much talk about AI recently it gives me pause as to what it can evolve to and this story shows just that. If we give it too much autonomy who knows what can happen.
This is a very thought provoking short story and packs a lot into such a short time. I cannot wait to read more by this duo.
Another great installment in this series. These books almost make me laugh and feel good. The trouble that they all get into never ceases to amaze me. And I have to say I am totally Team Joe I love them together.
I wish there was more to this one. The ending was too abrupt. I know that this is a short story but I just wanted more.
This female lead spy story defiantly kept my attention and I read it in one sitting. However I cannot say if I will continue if there are more books after this. I really enjoyed the connection between Michael and Emma. It was nice to see Emma open up and feel comfortable with him.
With the dual timelines I have to say that I much preferred the present than the past,. I know we needed to see where Emma came from and how she got to where she is now but I did not enjoy the jumping back and forth.
Overall an enjoyable read.
