You thought your first husband was dead. But now you're getting married again and he's standing in front of you. Your blood turns to ice as he says it's all a big misunderstanding. He's back now, and he won't ever let you go again...
What a ride. When the book started I was not sure what to think and what I was getting into. The twists that this book keeps taking defiantly left me on my toes and wanting to know what was going to happen next. At one point I thought I had it all figured out and then the rug was pulled out from under me.
I love when a book can keep me guessing and keep me up late at night wanting to know what is going to happen next. Sometimes I feel like all thrillers are alike and it is nice when one can surprise you.
I look forward to see what else the author has out there.
As much as I loved being back with the characters from the Daevabad world I think too much time has passed since I read the original books and this one for me to get the full potential out of it. There were some stories were I just could not remember what was happening at the times that they were referencing. I am glad that I have this now as I can read it when I want to do a re-read of the original series.
This is my first book by Susan Elia MacNeal and I have to day I do not mesh with her writing style. I feel that she tells you more than she shows you and kind of forces you to see what she wants instead of coming to something on your own. I am normally a WWII historical fiction fan but this one fell flat to me. I was very interested in the premise of the book and was looking forward to learning more about the mother and daughter it was inspired by but again it was not for me. It was too much of a slow burn for me to enjoy.
Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy.
A single mom fighting for what's right to make a new home for her kids
Enemies-to-lovers romance by way of the Homeowners Association
Building a community of friends and neighbors
What makes a house a home is the people inside, not the décor outside
This was a very enjoyable sweet romance with so much more meaning behind it. Yes you have the enemies to lovers romance, but you also have a female main character showing her kids how to be strong and to stick up for yourself and to keep your integrity. You have a love interest who is a good man and shows the kids that there are still good men in the world(their father is a deadbeat).
I needed a good romance to break up all the heavy books I have been rereading and this was it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the for an ARC in exchange for an honest review
When eighteen-year-old witch Iris Gray accidentally enacts a curse that could have dire consequences, she must team up with a boy who hates witches to make sure her magic isn't unleashed on the world.
I loved being back in a world that Rachel Griffin has created and even more so a world in one of my favorite places, the Pacific Northwest.. It is so easy to get lost in Rachel's writing and fully immerse yourself in it. he has become one of my auto buy authors, and I only have a couple of those when it comes to YA books.
This is a wonderful story about getting to know people and putting aside your preconceived notions about them. It is also a story about forgiveness, with the most beautiful ending I could have imagined.
If you want a cozy book this one is defiantly for you.
Thank you NG and RB Media, Recorded Books for an early copy.
This story packed a good punch in such a small amount of time. I did not see the twist coming and it was a good one.
What a heart breaking book. It is so hard to believe that all of this still goes on in our country. A must read for everyone. Thank you to the author for sharing this.
For the most part this was a very enjoyable book. I did not care for all the influencer/Instagram content it focused on but I understand that was a big part of the story. I am not the target audience for that but I don't blame the book for that. Another thing that got to me was how much Millies ADHD was mentioned. It was like we needed to be reminded that she had that over and over again.
Now what I loved was the friendship between Millie, Bree, Kate and Quincy, You could tell that they were there for each other no matter what. It is refreshing to see such strong female friendships. I could also see Sage fitting into that role as well and I wish we could have seen more of her and Millies friendship blossom.
I absolutely LOVE the romance between Millie and Pete. I was rooting for them the whole book and had a huge smile on the face at the end of the book.
I look forward to seeing what Gillian Libby writes in the future.
Thank you to NG and the publisher for an early copy of this book.
Who does not love Christmas in July?
This was the perfect time to read this book. In the blistering heat, I could escape and feel like it was cooler and Christmas time. There were parts of the book that I really liked and parts that I did not.
I was not a fan of Drew from the very begging when Ivy first meet him, something about him felt off.to me. Even though Nick was a jerk in the beginning I was on team Nick the entire time,
I wish that some of the side characters had more of a role. I would have liked to see more of Griffin and his story. To me he really came out of his shell when he was “hiding” at Ivy's parent house.
Overall I would give this a 3.5 stars for a fun and enjoyable read.
Thank you NG and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the early copy.
Wow what a ride. This book delves deep into the female friendships and how toxic they can be.
I dis get very frustrated with Billie at times and the choices she was making. She would put her whole life on hold for Cassie because she craved her acceptance. I was very happy that in the end that Billie realized that what Cassie did when they were kids was for Cassie and not her. Cassie was always looking out for herself and that will never change.
Another solid entry into the Alex Delaware series. With this being book 39 in the series you pretty much know what you are going to get.
With this one Milo is still struggling with the injuries that Alex had sustained with their last case, causing him to keep Alex out of a lot of the work they normally do together. After a gentle nudge from Robin Milo brings Alex into a case that is a double homicide in a neighborhood of “gated estates” in Bel Air.
I did have some issues with this one as it seemed rushed to me and I missed seeing the psychologist side of Alex that we normally get to see as well. It was not until the absolute end that we say some of this and it seemed like it was put in as an afterthought. The ending of the case seemed very rushed as well. Like Jonathan did not know how he wanted to end this one and just threw something out there.
I love the relationship between Eve and Mira and that really shines in this book.
Inspired by stories from One Thousand and One Nights, The Stardust Thief weaves the gripping tale of a legendary smuggler, a cowardly prince, and a dangerous quest across the desert to find a legendary, magical lamp.
For a debut novel Chelsea knocked this out of the park. I have never read One Thousand and one Night but now I want to so I can see what inspired this wonderful novel. I felt like I was in the desert with everyone partaking in the journey they were on. Chelsea's character development was great, and there were characters that grew on me as the story went on.
I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book and I look forward to the rest of this series and anything else Chelsea writes.
Thank you to Orbit and NG for an early copy.
Called in to examine what is left of a body struck by lightning, Tempe traces an unusual tattoo to its source and is soon embroiled in a much larger case. Young men—tourists—have been disappearing on the islands of Turks and Caicos for years. Seven years ago, the first victim was found in a strange location with both hands cut off; the other visitors vanished without a trace. But, recently, tantalizing leads have emerged and only Tempe can unravel them.
I enjoyed the mystery aspect of this installment and were it lead us. I only wish that we have had more Ryan and Tempe time. I love their chemistry and the time the have on page. The mystery took some twist and turns that I was not expecting and like always I was not able to guess what was going on until the end.
This is a series that I enjoyed and I think this was a wonderful installment and I cannot wait to see waht Kathy Reich does next with the story.
This is the 21st installment of the Temperance Brennan series and it just keeps getting better, By now we know all the main players in the story and love them all. I do miss Tempe's back and forth from Montreal and North Carolina like she used to more in the earlier books. Another thing that knocked off a start for me is that I wish Ryan had a bigger presence in this one. I really like the interactions between him and Tempe and missed that in the majority of this book.
Overall it is still an very enjoyable book and any fan of the series is going to like it.
Amelia Lang's life is kind of a mess. She's stuck living at home with her narcissistic mother. Her tech bro ex-boyfriend deliberately sabotages her at work, and she gets fired after throwing a mug at his head (it's okay! She missed.) Then she has a major falling out with her best friend. So Amelia does what Amelia does best: She runs away.
This was such a charming book. It has a wonderful found family aspect to it that I adored. You cannot help but fall in love with the people of Asteri. There is some miscommunication in here which I cannot stand and why I had to dock it half a star. I normally will not read a book if I know it has miscommunication in it, but I am so glad that I did not know about it in this one. I would have missed out on a great read.
I am excited to read more of Sierra Godfrey's work.
This one took me a bit to get into but once I hit about the 50% mark I was hooked. I think this was a great concept and really enjoyed the story. I will definitely check out more that this author writes.
I have read a number of World War II books but never one like this. It was very interesting reading from this perspective and this part of the world. I can never get over the brutality that happens in our world and the actions people thought were ok.
Most of the characters grated on me and I was unable to “connect” with them.
This was my first introduction to this author and I am looking forward to reading more from them. Just when I thought I had this figured out it changed. This was just the right length for this story.
This cover and blurbs gave me Ghost Ship vibes which is a movie that I enjoyed, however the story was nothing like it to me. The beginning of the book had me hooked and I needed to know what was going on. I was speeding through the first 200 pages of the book and then I skidded to almost a stop the last 150 pages. The ending and the reason for the chaos was not what I was expecting and somewhat underwhelming for me. I would also not classify this as Sci-Fi/Horror, it is more a thriller set in space. If you go into it with that mind set you will be much better for what is going on.
The beginning and middle were enjoyable enough for me to rate this a 3 stars. I just wish the ending and whole reason would have been different.
Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation.
This was my first Kristin Hannah book but it sure will not be my last. The way that she can make you feel so many emotions and so deeply is amazing. This book is about VERY heavy topics and you will cry your eyes out.
I was not alive when the Vietnam war was going on and did not know what our veterans had to endure when coming home. It was even harder for the women veterans who were basically told you are lying because there were not women in Vietnam or that they did not matter since they did not see combat. It breaks my heart that they had to endure all that after their amazing sacrifice.
Thank you Kristin for writing this incredible book and teaching me more about a time in our history that is not talked about near enough
I know that I am going to be in the minority here but I have to say that I liked Shadow and Bone better than this one. I had a hard time connecting with the characters in this book. I immediately connected with the ones in Shadow and Bone. I will continue on with this duology to see how everything ends, I just miss everyone from the original trilogy.
