I was looking for a Victorian Christmas book and this came up as an option. I did finish it because I loved the Christmas feeling but the two main characters were quite annoying. Lots of repeated prejudiced thoughts in their minds about one another... if they were just honest and talk to one another, the book could have been half as long.
Definitely more of a light hearted read. Atmospheric cottage-core setting. Victorian time period is always a draw for me. Since it is a teen book, I figured it was more tame and not many intense things happen. I do like how the magic is tied to emotions. I saw it as her anxiety and depression. As someone who has struggled with those things, it was really cool to see it portrayed in this way. A great way to start the conversation.
The focus of the plot is on Clara as she learns to deal with her magic which is anxiety & depression personified. I think it is a cool way to connect with teens and teach them how to work through those feeling and experiences.
Yes there could be more character development for other people and world building, but that wasn't the focus of this book. It is mental health and how to more forward with it.
I enjoyed this!
Cute premise, but I really didn't connect with the main character. She is a doctor and grew up taken care of her whole life. Never did laundry, cleaned, etc.
Also a bit too spicy and vulgar for my liking.
The world building and characters are so intriguing and I loved getting lost in the world! Haven't read a pirate book before, but this book left me wanting more.
Was disappointed by this book. I read the one about the bookseller in Scotland and that fell flat for me. I though I would give Jenny Colgan another try. This one fell even flatter.
Polly and her family are mentioned in the beginning, but the story isn't about them. The way the book keeps going back to them is distracting.
Many mundane and uninteresting things happen. Not fun to read.
The food descriptions were good. But the rest, I would say choose another book.
Loved the characters and writing! Emily Henry is one of my fave Rom com authors. I was laughing out loud. Great summer read!
I love the friends to lovers troupe filled with missed opportunities and tension. So good!
This book is beautiful, captivating, and exquisite. I was awes by the lovely descriptions of gardens and nature. The characters are all interesting and written so well. This whole book is written excellently! As a writer myself, I will use this book to better my own craft. Wow. I'm just so full of joy after reading this book!
Amazing to read through different women's' stories of grief and hardship and how they came out on the other side. Highly recommend!
I loved everything about this book. Every word and sentence was meaningful. Loved it!!!
This book was fantastic! Wow. Such an amazing read. All the characters are so dynamic and beautiful. Very real, human and just honest. I loved they are both writers, being an aspiring writer myself. As soon as I finished it, I wanted to read it again! If you want something romantic, authentic, and emotional, this is for you!
This book was a fun romance read. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of sex in rom coms, so I didn't like those parts as much. It was cool to see the time period it was written in. The middle of the woman's suffrage movement.
This books started off atmospheric. The coastal vibes were lovely on a rainy day, but as the story progressed, the plot became unclear and all over the place. I couldn't remember who all the sisters were or tell them apart. Felt like I needed a key.
It was also quite slow and I lost interest half way so I stopped reading it.
I'm a believer that if a book isn't interesting anymore, it's time to stop and read something else that might be more enjoyable. There are too many great books out there to read one that's just meh.
I don't usually read sci-fi, but this books was fantastic! Great writing and enticing plot. The main character, refers to themselves as Murderbot, is fantastic and so relatable. It's a delicious treat of a book. Going to read the rest she wrote!
Highly recommend!
Wow. I cannot gush enough good things about this book. The world building! The characters! The development, the well though out plot. I was taken by it all from the beginning!
Pretty good
This is your heist kind of book with many different perspectives. I'm usually wary of those because it's hard to do well. This was done pretty well though at time I was pretty overwhelmed at everything going on at the same time. Hard to keep it straight. The characters are intriguing and interesting. There aren't really any hero's per say, mostly anti hero's which is interesting.
I got half way through this because I wanted to give it a good chance but it falls flat for me. Each chapter is so short and I don't have a chance to get buy in for each character. Not a fan of how it's structured. Bummer.
I read about 150 pages of this book and I had to put it down. I couldn't even finish it. It is a super slow book that takes a long time to develop, does not keep you engaged and bores you. I would not recommend this book to anyone who likes exciting reads. This is not one. At all. Although I would recommend the movie which was much better than the book.
I read Noël Street but this author and really loved it. This books was disappointing. It went too fast, like some else said, it was like a fact sheet. Not enough emotion and just tells about events happening. I would say don't waste your time on this one. Read Noël street instead.
This book touched me so deeply. It opens your mind up and makes you think I things you may have never considered before. The relationship between the two main characters is so honest and realistic. The most not cliche book I have ever read. It seems so real. Like it is all really happening right before you. Amazing.
