Characters: Lord Alaric Wilde and Miss Willa Ffynche
Alaric Wilde is infamous due to his books on his adventures and a play. He meets Willa and he’s instantly attracted to her.
She is attracted to Alaric as well, but she doesn’t want to give in to him, because he’s so fawned over by other ladies.
A young lady from Alaric’s past when he was abroad comes to his home and announces her love for him, he doesn’t want to be with her so he has Willa fake an engagement with him.
Things I wasn’t a fan of:
1. Too many characters and it bogged down the story.
2. The beginning part was boring to me, if I physically read this book I probably would have DNFd this book.
3. I didn’t like how when Willa wasn’t paying attention to Alaric, he thought about sleeping with another woman to try and get over Willa 🙄
4. Willa ignoring Alaric and paying attention to every other man, just made it look like the romance was one sided
5. No idea why Alaric used the nickname Evie (her mothers maiden name was Everett) when he can call her Willa 🤷🏻♀️
6. This felt too lust based once they did get engaged.
Characters: Julia and Gregory Carter, Duke of Ashworth
Julia is 27, she lost her father a year after he got remarried, she has a stepsister named Susannah with whom they get along. Her step mother unfortunately is a nasty woman. One night Julia decides to go out to a ball and meets the Duke of Ashworth.
The Duke of Ashworth is a skilled lover, and he has a lot of female admirers, so much so that he gets husbands who challenge him to a duel almost on the daily. He sees Julia and is instantly attracted to her. They kiss and she runs away leaving her shoe behind.
The Duke of Ashworth is done with dealing with being challenged to duels, so Julia comes up with a plan that they get married. The Duke agrees and they quickly get married.
I enjoyed this, but it was a bit sad because you could see how Gregory was deprived of love and affection growing up with his cold parents, so he didn’t truly believe that Julia could love him. I felt so bad for him, and this is what caused a conflict between him and Julia.
Characters: Daios and Anya
Daios wants to destroy Alpha and the other underground glass houses the humans live in. He and the others advise a plan to kidnap the generals daughter (Anya) so they try to take down the glass houses.
Anya is miserable living under her father’s thumb, she had become deaf due to an explosion years ago. One day she sees a undine in the pool, she’s curious about him and swims closer to him. Then he starts showing up more frequently and she wants to know more about him.
He gets discovered by the cameras and then her home becomes a prison. She gets to the point where she escapes in the pipes and Daios rescues her.
I really enjoyed this, but not as much as the first book, Daios very much dealt with a lot of guilt from some of his people getting killed on a raid of Beta from the first book, and Anya has been treated horribly by her father for years (even smacking her). It did make me a bit sad, hence why I had to give the book a 4 star instead.
