Donovan is a twelve year old boy, who one day whilst dreaming of growing up and going off fishing and working with the men, his world is shattered - his village is attacked by barbarians. The men are all killed and the women and children are sold as slaves.
This is a story of how Donovan and his friends escape their captors, and start living a life in the woods with the wood elves. Through intense training with the elf leader Alayna, Donovan and his friends gain respect from the wood elves princess, Brandela.
This story has adventure, grief and romance, it was a joy to read, and it had me hooked from the first chapter. It was descriptive and the story held my attention, as all I wanted to know was if all would be ok for Donovan and Brandela. However, it was slow at times.

I found this book really interesting and educational. It's well written and easy to understand. However, some of the American language is different to our English; e.g. fanny in American is someone's bottom, which made me laugh (sorry).
It's from a guy's perspective about dating. Beware though; some of what he writes may offend the delicate. But on a whole it's funny and entertaining.

This book had me gripped from the word go, I was totally hooked and could not put it down. It told the story of Annette, a young lady who fell in love and had her heart broken. Then through the tragedy of a bombing in her local city, decisions were made which lead her to a different path. I was really involved with the characters, which were very believable. Being a health care professional myself the intensity and stress of going through medical school, I could really relate too.
The book was easy to read, descriptive, well written and flowed. It was a pleasure to read.
I recommend this book, and look forward to reading the next book by Marie Fostino.

An excellent gripping read.
The setting was fully described by the author, and each chapter represented a character, each chapter left me wanting more as I was totally gripped.
It was a book that I could not put down; I was drawn in by the wonderful characters, the island and the monsters. I was constantly thinking how is this going to end? At times it was quite scary.
The story flowed and was easy to read, however there were a few Scottish words that I had to look up on my kindle dictionary, but don't let this put you off.
This was my first book that I have read by William Meikle, and I will definitely be reading more of his books.

This is the story of Jacqueline, who through having the same dreams every night finds a psychic for answers. With the help of psychic Delphi, Jacqueline's dreams are not just dreams; she is reliving the life of Michelle, who was married to a Jew, in the Second World War and she is pregnant with twins.
Through Michelle's eyes, Jacqueline lives through the torment, pain, degradation of living in a German death camp, and being submitted to experiments due to carrying twins.
I found this book “unputdownable”, it was well written, descriptive and easy to read, and it had me gripped by the first chapter. The story however gave you an insight of the horrors that went on in the German death camps, and the tension at the end of the book will mean you will be reading throughout the night.

I found this book very slow to start. It was very descriptive, and I was left wandering where the story was going, but it was good in parts.
The story followed well-known singer/songwriter Annie, her lover Owen and Annie's brother Caulder in a story of murder, love and betrayal. The novel moves between past tense accounts of Annie's life. It was well written and flowed, but lacked tension. Unfortunately I struggled to read this book.

When Jennifer finds her daughter is not home from school yet, her past flashed before her eyes with the memories of Jacy, love, death and becoming a mother at the age of sixteen.
People would stop Jenny and ask if the child she was with was her sister. “No this is my child.” Yet the looks she got hurt her. She was 16 years old when her life changed forever. Despite being raised in a Christian home with strict religious values, some of her choices were careless, and they came with weighty consequences.
A strange combination of sadness and joy overcome her when she turns back the clock. Names and faces float through her mind like ghosts that still haunted her but as always, a smile forms on her face and she remembers only love.
Another heart warming read from Marie Fostino, a real page turner that describes heartache and the uncertainties of growing up. It's a tear jerker, so get the box of tissues ready. Its beautifully written, very descriptive and a delight to read.

This is by far one of the best books I have read in a while. It's a real gem of a story.
The story jumps from Dagny who is a modern day girl, who finds a diary that was written by Miska - a gypsy girl who's father is Vlad the Impaler. Once Dagny starts reading the diary, strange things start to happen. I got totally engrossed with this story. At the end of each chapter I was craving for more.
The story is very well written and descriptive. The characters are well thought out. The plot is intelligent, flows and is easy to follow.
Praise to Jo Hogarth - I hope there is a follow up to this book.

I totally loved this book. The writers descriptive writing swept me away in Paris, the smell, the sights and sounds - I was mesmerised. I connected with the characters too, there was love, heartbreak, friendship with some humour too.
This is not the sort of book that I usually read, but I fully recommend this book, I will definitely be reading again in the future. I will also be trying out the recipes at the back of the book.

Unicorn is an extremely interesting story giving insight into a world of drag queens and being a gay Muslim. I must be honest; it was quite an educational read too – I was circling words and meanings with my pencil (my little world is completely different).
The author Amrou, idolises and adores his mother but when he starts to experiment wearing women's clothes, wearing his mother's makeup, and wanting to explore his sexuality with boys and men, his family not only rejects who he really is, but blames him for their unhappiness and their bad luck. His mother believed that homosexuality was a sin and that Allah would throw them both into hell.
The author takes us with him on the highs, but manly lows of his early life. Not only being rejected by his family, but also rejecting everyone around him, including himself. He ends up on a self-destructive road of drugs, parties and one-night stands.
This book is an honest description of his inner life, the perfectionism to the brink of OCD, his education at Eton college and Cambridge university, his attempt to delete his past, his language, and his culture as he tries to be someone else.
This is a shocking, heart-breaking, educational and life enhancing read. It is a true insight of the difficulties one has as they explore who they really are, their sexuality, their mental health, how their family and friends react. Whilst fighting their own demons.
I encourage everyone to read this book, I am so glad I did.
The Plague Stones is a story of ghosts, family, and loyalty. After their 14-year-old son Toby is the victim of a violent break in, in their small rented flat. Trish and Peter accept the offer that no-one could refuse: a mortgage free beautiful home with a huge garden, all set within a village, a close community, and a position as one of the village's trustees. All inherited from a very distant aunt Trish barely remembers. It all seems too impossibly good to be true. From the very first night in the house, Toby realises that there is more to this house than he ever could have imagined!
A tale of horror, history and folklore that has you completely gripped from the first page; the author immerses you in a world where the black plague seems incredibly real, and anything is possible.
Each character is written so well that you cannot help becoming emotionally invested in each of them. The author has made this story so captivating, tense and thought-provoking, that I found it almost impossible to put down.
However, I have rated this book 4 stars. Even though the ending was good and thought provoking especially about current circumstances and coincidences that is going on in present day, I felt that I wanted to know more about the family.
This is the first James Brogden book that I have read, and I will definitely be adding more of his books to my book collection after enjoying The Plague Stones so much!
Extremely good, don't be put off by the title, there are no softy angels spreading fairy dust in this book! This is a hellish tale of our world devastated by an apocalypse of evil angels visiting Earth to wreak damage and death on all humans. It's an interesting twist on the popular end of the world scenario.
Penryn has been hiding out in her apartment along with her rather crazy mother and her disabled sister Paige. It has been six weeks since the Angels returned to our world to destroy our way of life. Under the cover of night, Penryn and her family escape their apartment fearing they will be next as bands of raiders reach their apartment block, evil humans set on killing and collecting food. On the road away from their home they are suddenly startled by a group of Angels attacking one of their own, how can this be? Hiding from the fight, they accidentally draw the Angels attention and Paige is abducted by the Angels and viciously flown away. Penryn is left in fear and anger, how can she battle her way through an apocalyptic wasteland that was once America to find and save her sister.
At first I was expecting the usual story, change vampires, werewolves or fairies for angels and that was it. But, the main difference is a main character has a clear voice and is head strong, she fears for her life but is in the middle of a devastated world where she has to survive and help her family. Romantic love is the last of her worries; she is loyal and cares for the “guy in question” but she never lets is blur her vision of rescuing her little Sister and getting her family back together.
An incredible novel and not what I was expecting at all, it was quite shocking in places, it rivets you to the spot and you find yourself racing through page after page desperately wanting to know what happens next.
This book has been an Internet phenomenon and has rave 5 star reviews, I now know why! You must give it a try. I can't wait for the next book and hope it is equally as good.

It is an extremely engaging literary historical thriller. I found it an exciting book right down to the very last page and I didn't want it to end - it is a thrilling, thought provoking and fast-paced. Which I read with a quickened heartbeat!
This is a very well-written, sophisticated and totally absorbing novel, where Simon Mawer has created realistic characters and has cleverly used a blend of fact and fiction to make his tale both exciting and very believable.
Simon Mawer really sets a scene well, he conveys the mood and atmosphere of the Second World War, and I could frequently feel the tension whilst reading. He has created compelling characters and a memorable adventure story which pulled me in; I cared deeply about what would happen to Marion, after what she had been through, she has such guts and courage, and yet is so vulnerable. The prose is beautiful, and I was very moved by this story. This is one book that I will remember for a long time.
This is definitely one of my books of the year so far.

I loved this book from the start, and I was not let down. It was easy to read, well written and I could relate to the characters. It was descriptive and imaginative, I was taken away to this remote Scottish island.
Kate was dumped on her best friends wedding, by boring spreadsheet addict Ian. Wanting to start a new life she takes on a girl Friday job on the remote Scottish island of Auchenmor. Even though she has promised no men for a year, she starts to fall for Roddy, Laird of the island.
This is a lovely romantic, heart warming story. I loved the characters and the island. It will lift your spirits whenever and however you pick up this book. This book is escapism at its very best.

This book has everything, you can relate to the characters, it's well written and descriptive. It's a roller coaster of a story - with twists and turns, turning the page you are wandering what is going to happen next.
If you like a bit of magic with shadowhunters, werewolves, vampires, warlocks and demons - this book is for you. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I read this book a little while ago. It is a story that I will remember and read again at a later date.
A heart rendering read about a couple who longed for a child of their own.
This book was a delight to read, it was descriptive, the story flowed. It gave you the sense of isolation - living in the wilderness and coldness.
An excellent read.

When the perfect woman meets the perfect man, I was torn between putting it down, or throwing it in the nearest bin! Perfect woman (who every man is in love with of course) has an IQ of 170, is the world's leading genius in the code-breaking field, yet somehow manages to do not a lot in this book. She teaches her perfect boyfriend basic code-breaking and he turns out to be better at it than she is! Perfect boyfriend, who is a mere language genius, then turns out to be stupid enough to accept an undercover mission without so much as a slight raised eyebrow and turns into James Bond, engaging in every chase/pursuit cliché in history!
It has many short chapters. Yet, it is difficult to stop reading. It has a clever hi-tech theme. It does get quite technical with the world of codes, cryptography, hackers, computers and intelligence, I don't have any knowledge of those and I managed to understand it.
I found this book at my local charity shop, and am very glad I did not pay full price for this.
