This was even better than the first book. There was so much happening. I may even re-read this in a few days. I thought this was going to be a 2 book series, so when the ending came and I was so very unsatisfied, I hopped on GR and saw that there is a book 3! YAY!!! I can't wait. I love Kal, I love Jes. I love that there is so much happening. I hope Jes can handle what she has brought upon herself by saving Gargaron and bringing him to where her family is.
DNF @ 65% – Slight spoilers ahead.
I did NOT know when i put this on hold in at my library that it was a Why Choose (Reverse Harem), and when i started the audio book and heard that I though, why not. Lets give it a chance! And let me tell you, as much as I like spice between my characters, I dont mind an occasional 3rd person in them, but I much prefer heavy plot in my books. I like angst and heavy emotions. I felt NO connection to any of these characters, I didnt finish the book and I couldnt even be bothered to look up how it ends.
Some issues I have -
1. ALL the NO CONDOMS. I'm sorry, in this day and age it just seems unrealistic. Like, people, protect yourselves. I know its just a book, but EVERY sexual encounter this woman had was unprotected. Personally, thats just a pass for me especially when its a modern setting.
2. Rachel basically outed Caleb and Jake to Mars(Ilmari Kinnunen). It wasnt discussed in the book if she had their permission but again, personally, not your business to tell.
I will say, the smut was VERY well written, I was just overloaded with it. I would have liked more story, and a smidge less sex all the time with multiple people.
So, the first 4 books I listened to, for the sake of ease. And I wasn't loving it. I wanted to know what happens, so I trudged on. But I literally HATED all the characters. I hate Orion and Darcy. I hated Darius. I like Tory, for some reason.
Well this book I decided to read as it's a weekend and I have the time. Well. I am not right right now. I cried in the first 45 minutes of reading this book. I was SUCKED in this whole book. There were times I was mad at the twins. Times when I was heartbroken. How much pain are these writers going to put Tory and Darius through?!?!?
I have so many questions. Diego? Why is Lionel so much stronger than everyone? Why doesn't the guardian bond need the permission of both people? Seems like an oversight. Why does there have to be so much girl on girl hate? Mildred, Marguerite, Kylie? I am not a fan of other woman troping, but also I am not a fan of making fun of people who are different than the typical beauty standard. (Mildred) It kind of annoyed me. But at least her personality was also terrible so I disliked her for that.
Also, it seemed like the heirs were pushing around the twins significantly less. Like almost out of character. But I prefer it to the wolf piss in book 2 sooooo I'm not complaining.
Did I immediately buy the rest of the series on kindle? Yes.
PS. I LOVE Geraldine, I love the bond between Darius and Orion, I love Seth and Caleb.
Well, right after that update I went to bed and when I picked this book back up I was at 70% before I realized I blinked. The story is so strong that I forgot how annoyed I was about the interview style telling. I can't wait to see what happens next!
I for some readon thought this was a 2 book series, but yay! I was mistaken. I hate that I didnt wait until they were done writing it because it is soooo good. Lea and Rachel and bad asses!
I want to live at Gertrude Hunt! I love Dina, I love Sean, and I love everything about this story.
I have been reading the Kate Daniels books pretty much back-to-back, and I do not know how the IA have managed to keep them interesting and engaging, but they do.
Yes, there was a lot of drama in this book, but since it is not my story to tell, I welcome it. Also, I thought they did a GREAT job telling the whole story here, not just focusing on the drama. There were also some awesome fight scenes, between Kate and Hugh, between Kate and monsters, and the scene when Kate finds the shepard(its been a few days and a few books, this is what he called himself, right?) after almost drowning is interesting. There is plenty of information in this book, and it is not really centered around Kate and Curran.
This book was so good, but hard to read. By hard to read I mean I had to stop in the middle of this book and read a historical romance or 2 to brighten my mood! There was a scene about 20% of the way in that was just cruel, it shows what kind of man Olidan is, and in my opinion why Jorg is the way he is.
Here is the deal. I enjoyed the book, but, there were a couple of very stereotypical YA things that kind of get annoying after a while.
Twylla is SUUUUUUUUUUUPER annoying, she has almost no character development in the whole book. She is extremely immature, and she has almost no interaction with people, so a lot of the time she doesnt know how to act. She thinks herself in love after seeing collar bones. FREAKING COLLAR BONES. WTH people.
I like Merek, although, I dont think we know everything about him yet. And Leif, the other love triangle, GAG, is just blegh. I didnt care for him at all. And there were so many times when I was simply shocked that Twylla and Leif werent caught by other people. Like, yall are being stupid.
“My mother is a fat woman” was probably my favorite sentence, I laughed pretty hard at that. Just straight to the point, because her mother was the Sin Eater of Lormere. She is dedicated to the job, and always eats the whole feast, which is why she is heavy. Twylla was to be the next Sin Eater, but the Queen found her and discovered her immunity to poison and that she was touched by the gods so she is Daunen Embodied. Daunen Embodied is the Queens personal executioner of traitors to the crown, or so it seems.
Solid 3.5 stars, damn you GR for not letting me pick half stars.
This book was over the top! It was still fun to read, and I will be continuing on with the series, but I am still stuck on the whole master vampires can fly. And lord knows what else.
This installment has one of Cat's team requesting to be turned into a vampire, old grudges threaten Cat's life and those around her, and Mencheres and Bones get a little cuddly. I am a little over how in love everyone seems to be with Cat, why does everyone have to have a hard on for the main characters so much? Tate really enjoys riling up Bones this installment, which is pretty funny most of the time.
Wow. Rebecca, hope you dont mind me using your first name, but respectfully. Fuck you. Wow that book hurt me. How much heartache do you need to put your characters through? I LOVED the story up until the last i dunno, 30 pages ish?
Spoilers ahead, and I mean it.
The story is about Ella (single mom of twins aged 5 ish), and Beckett(aka Chaos). Beckett and Ella's brother were in the military together, when her brother(Ryan) suggests that Emma start writing letters to Chaos because he might be lonely. The letters between Ella and Beckett are really cute, and sprinkled through the book, and our of order. I really enjoyed that. So Ryan dies, and all the men in the unit have a “last letter” they have given to their commanding officer to hold onto in case they you know, die. Ryan's later letter was to Beckett, and he asked Beckett to go to Telluride, CO and watch after his sister. Cute right. So Beckett shows up, and doesnt tell Ella that hes Chaos. It evolves to this big elaborate thing that she does find out about eventually, and shes not happy. All the while shes dealing with one of her twins having cancer, a neuro blastoma. I thought this was gonna be what got me, but its NOT. As a mom of a currently 4 and 6 year old, the death of one of he children really just blew me straight into a sobbing mess. This death added NOTHING to the story, to the love story, and im so fucking pissed off about it. So 2 stars because up until that point it would have been a 5 star book. Because theres no HEA when one of your children dies.
I really wanted to like this book, I love the dynamic between Blay and Qhuinn. I love that it took more than 1 book for them to come together. But at about 45% I just found myself staring at the page and unable to keep reading. Maybe 11 books is too much for me, or I am just bored with the story. I love when its about Blay and Qhuinn, but every other chapter I find myself quickly skimming. So, why bother reading the rest, I know they are going to have a happily ever after.
I'm listening to the audio books and Jennifer Ikeda is the only reason I made it through the first 2 books.
These books remind me a little of the Allie Beckstrom series by Devon Monk. Main character uses magic, at the risk of her own health quite often, both fathers are extremely wealthy, with poor relationships with the daughter. Not saying its a bad thing, I like the way the writing and story line flows, and the way that relationships are formed. This is a fun series, and if you like one, you should like the other. Back to this book, we left off pretty quickly after the end of the 1st book. This story was fast paced, and kept me engaged the whole time. I even like what is happening with Death and Falin! I am sort of rooting for both, I cant tell yet, maybe both forever.
I was enjoying this book until about 60%, then it went downhill really fast. Rebecca is 18, and she is running away from an arranged marriage, with the help of her stable boy, Connor Riordan, who is actually a duke in hiding. I figured while they were running they would realize they had feelings for each other, but instead they sleep together, and the day after they are declaring their love for one another and decide to get married. UMMMM, okay? He insists on calling her wee-Becca throughout the whole ordeal, even after their physical intimacy, which was odd to me. Couldnt you have called her Becca instead? Anyways, I had to DNF@65% because I was getting bored with the story.
I liked the premise... but it took almost half the book for me to actually like anything. The personality of the princess was very Eeyore like.... but it had a strong finish.
This was a fun, quick read and I really enjoyed the slight mystery in this first book. I will probably not read the second book, since that character did not interest me much. It had some fun action scenes as well, but I found myself getting lost between the Armenians, the Italians, the Irish, and the Russians.
That was a fun, quick little book. I loved the way it ended, it made me laugh. It wasn't some big cliffhanger. Looking forward to more!
I think I'm in love with this author! I love her leading men, and women. I fucking love how much they swear. I love how they use nicknames for all the girls. It just fucking makes me smile when they call everyone darling and baby and doll. And the sex scenes are great.
This series has its ups and downs.... since I bought the first 3 books I will keep on reading.
I think I would have enjoyed this book more, however in contemporary settings there are 2 things that really piss me off. First, if you are discussing condom usage before having sex, the answer better be yes. This didn't bother me very much until I started reading more and more books with a contemporary setting, and how OFTEN this occurs. HELLO? STD's or pregnancy people? The first time Lily and Max get it on here I forgave it because they had one thing on their minds, so when the condom was brought up later I assumed that one of them would be smart enough to oh, use one. Anyways, this book was interesting in that Lily is not a traditional beauty, in fact she is supposedly quite ugly. She has some issues with it, other people have issues with it. Max has a fear of ugly people, and lets keep in mind that beauty and ugliness is all relative.
So Max has cacophobia, its a real thing, I looked it up. I think its weird, but who am I to judge. Max asks Lily to work for him to help him cope with his phobia, and voila, they get physical and they fall in love. I wanted to believe it. I wanted to like it. In fact, if it werent for the sex, I may have believed it. I felt that that kind of intimacy came too soon, especially since I think that Lily would have been more guarded around Max. But, I think that the overall story, was meant to be hopeful and give people, namely people who think they may be ugly, that they can have love. Or something like that. It could have been better, but it could have been worse.
Afterthought: In the book there is mention that Lily needs to get plastic surgery, which I thought was reprehensible, and her roommate said, I dont think that will make you happy. I think that is right. Being comfortable with yourself is more important than trying to fit in with anyone elses beauty standards. Like I said earlier, this book could have done a better job with the whole ugly girl thing, but it didnt do the worst job.
Apparently I tried to read this before, but I didnt shelve it on GR. When I opened it it was at 50%.... and then i went back a few pages and it clicked. RIGHT. I was not digging this story. But I skimmed the rest of the book since I went through the trouble of borrowing it again. This book could have had some of the gratuitous sex taken out, it always felt a little awkward to me. But I really did want to know what happened in the H and h's past. So I trudged along, and I was rewarded with? A cliff hanger! Well kind of. I will probably skim through the next book to find out what happens. Hopefully it flows better than this book did. Not impressed.
DNF @15%
I know this is going to sound really bad on my part, but I cant get past the fact that the heroine's name is Bathsheba. I am sorry. Bathsheba, and Benedict. Bath and Ben.
I tried. I really did.
