I've read this before as the book. This manga was from a copy from the library and was in PDF format so I couldn't read it very well. The story was good, it had the main points and added narration to it. The only downside I had was the format I read it in.
The story continues. A little more background for the main characters. Very interesting.
Liked some of the ideas that it had, but kept giving some grammar lessons as well. I liked them at first but it was distracting at times.
Easy to understand if reading on own. A little difficult going back and forth when praying with others.
Finally started reading it through. Great book, definitely worth a listen more than once.
Took me a while to read. Plenty of information that I had not known even after watching the movie but quite fascinating. A little too much information at times as there was a lot going on but gets the point across.
Very informative. Breaks down things so they are easy to understand and be able to focus on them. Can’t wait to try the recipes.
3.5
Informative, but a bit sluggish at the beginning. It captured my attention a little more towards the end. Could have been the type of anecdotes that just weren't resonating with me.
Wow, it's a tough read based on the content. But the descriptions the author makes on this case linking it with her life is just excellent.
Maybe it's my conservative Christian upbringing that made me dislike this book. I understand it's a commentary on how society was and still is. We tend to be obsessive about things and people mostly. And in our journey to obtain them, we go down roads that are not healthy for us. The writing was great, the descriptions, everything. Just that for me I just couldn't get into the book.
Great book, learned a lot. Each story from the youth gave a clear picture on what they were going through at the time.
First time I read it I liked it. Interesting read and liked that the main character was learning to heal from the past.
This second time I read it, I still liked it but a little less. What stuck out the most I felt like the “big bad guy” in the second half of the novel foreshadowed. Though I had forgotten most of the plot from when I first read it I was really hoping the bad guy was someone else.
Maybe 3.5 stars
This is just a depressing book. It feels like he's writing down everything in a journal of past repressed memories. Everything he's writing about he's complaining for one thing or another. Even the good times, he finds something to complain about.
In the second part is him coming to terms with what he goes through and the start of seeking help, which I applaud him for. Unfortunately it's only a small section. Overall, the book was just too depressing but it does give us a glimpse of what he's gone through.
Only halfway in the book but oh my, this is excruciatingly painful to read at times but can't stop reading it. Not sure if I can get my thoughts in order on this one. On the one hand, the book's topic is important. What Vanessa goes through what she believes to be her truth and not willing to reconcile to what everyone else is seeing is hard to read about. Yet, I know that it is something that happens to people with these traumatic experiences.
At the end of the book now, the part that got me the most is, “I just really need it to be a love story... because if it isn't a love story, what is it? It's my life, my whole life.” I feel like it's the moment she realized what truly happened and from then on she can move forward, I don't want to trivialize it, but I guess fixing that part of her life and be better. It certainly gives us a glimpse of what someone can go through and still decide not to press charges.
It's been a while since I read the book, so did not remember what was in the books besides what I saw in the movies but those I haven't seen in a while either. Anyways, this was a great book. It did get a little boring at times when Tolkien gave a lot of description.
